*Happy New Year, friends!*

Despite the busy holiday weeks, the girls have already been super busy creating for the new year. The challenge this month?

Uno. Un. Eins. ONE!

That was all the instruction that was given, so the girls took it far and away on their own, delighting as usual!

Khristen

I tried to stick with one manufacturer and line, but didn't have CP alphas. So: one patterned paper (CP Farmhouse), one cardstock, one mist (Mister Huey in Clay), one color bling (Cotton Candy Stickles), one alpha (MM Dilly Dally), one chipboard (CP Farmhouse), one trim which I gathered at one end (CP Farmhouse), one border (CP Farmhouse), one sticker (CP Farmhouse), one journal box die cut (CP Farmhouse) and one picture. Used one color of Spectrum Noir marker for the journaling to complement the blues in the layout and photo.

I used ONE in the title, one mist, one mask, one sticker, one bling, one piece of card stock,one photo, one chipboard swirl, one stamp, one color of ink,one ribbon, one cardboard die cut (the bracket shape) and only used one font per word in my title.

Here is my January layout. I used one picture, one manufacturer (except for the flowers) and one sticker. I also only used one piece of paper to create the squares and other pp embellies.
I was hoping to do something more with this challenge, but after the month I've had, I'm just happy to get it finished.

This challenge ended up a fix to an old, unfinished layout gone awry.I tore everything off except for the old school arrow, reduced the pictures from 2 to 1, and then redecorated it with the "one" rule. I have one background paper, one patterned paper, one arrow, one rickrack, one word title, one paper flower, one felt flower, one fabric flower, one brad, one bling (cut into 2!), one journaling card, one photo, one polka dotted strip, one rub-on, one button with one string, one border, one ribbon.
My challenges on this layout were using pink and red together, and getting the look on McKenna's face to shine through!

Here is my One layout. I have one Patterned paper, transparency, doily, mist, felt swirl, sticker, metal snowflake, border, ribbon, rubon, paper clip, flag, chipboard snowflake, button, one word title, ticket, pearl, journaling spot, tag, snowflake, baker's twine, and brad.

I had a bit of a hard time with this because I tend to repeat shapes in my layouts. So I just kept it as simple as possible- I used some Basic Gray paper, Crate chipboard, a snowflake ornament and some wrapping paper. I broke out the sewing machine for the edges- I really like messy ends all over a page. The journaling reads: "It's the small gentle moments, the unexpected pauses which make memories that last a lifetime."

I have used one of everything (if you count the buttons as one small button and one large button!! I have used 1 colour and the number 1 in the title!! Wow that was a fun challenge to start with.

ok, here goes, my first LO as a True XOXO girl!! I have one of each: chipboard number 1, sheet from an old address book, photo, pattern paper (Close to my Heart), crocheted flower (Stampin Up), metal clip, ribbon, scallop punch, embossed scallop stamp (powder-Ranger, stamp- Stampin Up). Hmm...think that about covers it! So much fun to do the "Uno" challenge!!

Just emailed Lindsey my January 2012 take on the challenge. This is a layout for our 12th wedding anniv we celebrated last Dec 11. Used one manufacturer (Webster's) for the paper and sticker, one photo, one ribbon, one photo turner, one bling, one flower, one transparency (clock), one baker's twine, should be one word title but I added "years" and forgot my intent to just put "12"...Happy New Year everyone, have a blessed one!

This one was tricky... I used one flower, one piece of lace, one piece of pattern paper, one checker, one spritz of paint, and one rub-on. Using only one of something is a lot harder than it sounds. The pictures are of my cat Rory. She is obsessed with shoes. As soon as I take them off she likes to get in them. Doesn't matter what pair, she loves them all!

This is my Nov. black canvas. I went deep with this one. I wanted to make something inspirational, a colourful gem of self-confidence-boosting goodness emerging from the dark blackness of self-doubt and self-deprecation. I was inspired to go for lots of different texture by an awesome Pinterest photo of some black-painted fingernails.

But since it was open to our interpretation...
I used black as my accent for my title. Hope you like it!!!

I waited too long for my brother's homecoming pic!

I wanted to keep it sleek and simple so the photo stands out.

The Mexican holiday "Day of The Dead" has always been fascinating to me. It's celebrated on November 1 and 2 with family and includes lots of food, color, flowers and fireworks. I really like the idea of having a designated time to mourn and then celebrate those in your family who have passed on. The calaveras (skulls) in this photo are actually really cool plaster but breakable so I left them in the store. I colored most of the flowers here using Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in "Oil Slick" and some black acrylic paint. Tip on shooting black on black- shoot in open shade (right next to a window) and use a bounce card.

I used a Making Memories flocked cardstock and dusted it with black PanPatels. The photo is Lightroom edited with a few presets. To tie things back in I used another piece of the flocked cardstock in original form and a matching glittered cardstock for the title. The quote says, "Music is the moonlight in the gloomy night of life," written in silver ink.

Mostly sketches. I LOVE sketches and can't do a thing without one. I am very inspired by clean and simple designs usually. :)

Hmm, favorite manufacturer? I can't just name one really for paper, but I wouldn't know what to do without American Craft Thickers! I LOVE those things!

3. How old were you when you had your first kiss? (optional question!)

It was the summer before my 9th grade year, so I was about 13 or 14? I still talk to my first kiss and it is very strange to think of that part of our friendship now that we are FAR from dating. LOL!

4. What is your favorite lipstick, lip gloss or lip treatment?

I swear by cherry Chapstick. For a hint of color, I used tinted/colored lip gloss though. :)

Challenge #22 - Instagr.am!

So... how was September? Hope you had as much fun as we did! With all the rain going around, that meant more scrapping time for all, right? I hope so!!

So this month's challenge for the XoXo team was Instagr.am! Some of our girls prefer Hipstamatic, and that's fine, too!! Point is, the "app for that" generation is easily putting photo editing into the hands of ... well ... everyone! I personally have nine photo apps on my droid and two on my iTouch, so I get the excitement. That everyone can now so easily express themselves and share their stories through photography has to be a great thing - isn't that what drew us all into scrapbooking into the first place?

By the way, can I just say how extremely amazing this team is? I mean, I'm talking beyond the talent. These girls are supportive, sweet and my most favorite - EARLY! lol. If you know me, it's not one of my strong suits, so they've inspired me, time-management-wise. Remember the prize for completing a layout or project based on inspiration from one of ours is a full month with the team behind the scenes. If you want a chance to be a part of such ... amazingness! ... is just a layout away.

"Although I don't have an iPhone or Insta-powers I love the look of the photos and try to play around in Paint.net to achieve a similar look. And when I think of Hipstamatic and Instagram I think of bright colours outlined by darkening borders - blues and greens and yellows mixed with black and white. I also misted the papers and flowers to add a bit more "sepia" tone (although I have to get out there and get more pics before I can post...haven't successfully captured the full mist effect on the flowers!)"

"Here is my Instagram project"

"I only realized I loved the BG "Life of the Party" paper when I saw it in person- the wood grain motif KILLS me! The flowers, corrugated board and other orange touches come from Gauche Alchemy kits. Writing on the borders of my page is a fave for me. Ripping up vellum is my way of hinting at the "melted wax" look without actually setting anything on fire"

"One example of a page using an Instagram (actually the very similar Hispstamatic app) type photo. I printed it at home since the square format does not translate into the auto printers you find in your local Walgreens/Walmart or the like. Nations Photo Lab can print them for you but it takes a couple of days for delivery."

"I have a droid so I did a few Lightroom presets. Didn't do too much to the actual cardstock other than extra shading throughout with PanPastels. Then I colored the velvet ribbon with yellow PanPastels. It was pink. Oh sprayed it with a Perfect Pearl mist but you can't tell in the photo."

I love working with Cosmo Cricket! They have such unique lines and elements in their supplies! I am also a huge fan of DCWV stacks! I love how you can buy one stack to make a ton of coordinating pages.

I probably had my first boy kiss when I was able to walk. I was the type of lil girl who threw sand at the boys then ran after them just to kiss them.

4. What is your favorite lipstick, lip gloss or lip treatment?

I am a HUGE fan of C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Lip glosses!!! They also have other flavors! LOVE IT!!!!

1. Where do you find the most inspiration for your scrapbooking?

Websites of fellow scrappers locally and internationally, and the challenge blogs.

2. Do you have a favorite manufacturer? favorite fellow designer?

I love Echo Park, Webster's Pages, Prima, Pink Paislee, Sizzix, Tim Holtz, etc. (too many to mention). I adore a lot of scrappers: Iris Uy of the Philippines; Naomi Capps; Solange Marques; Karola Witczak, etc.

3. How old were you when you had your first kiss? (optional question!)

If I remember it right, I had my first official kiss when I was 17 years old (yikes, sounds I had it late).

4. What is your favorite lipstick, lip gloss or lip treatment?

I stick to my daily regimen of strawberry chopsticks lip balm and nothing else.

I'm so, so glad I didn't have to send my scheduled post, missing the first new posting date due to Irene. Many thoughts & prayers up and down the east coast as people try to recover from the hurricane devastation.

In the meantime, please note the new changes for True XoXo!

and I'll cry if I want to BUT, trust me, you won't wanna cry after you read this...In addition to us celebrating the 4th of July already, July is also National Hot Dog, Ice Cream, Blueberries, Mango and Melon month! It's also a time for bbqs, sharing sunsets, golf, cycling, swimming....whatever fun you feel like having! Oh, and did I mention BIRTHDAYS?? In the spirit of celebrating the fact that it's Lipstick Chick Kate Blue's 40*6th birthday today, we break in the middle of the month with a surprise guest designer!

One of Kate's all-time favorite scrappy gals is Felicitas Klink and she so graciously gave us some sneak peeks as to why she's one of Kate's favs (and it's not just that they both love Maroon 5 and Franz Ferdinand!)

Please welcome Felicitas all the way from Stuttgart, Germany where she has been papercrafting for ONLY 2.5 years with the support of her super sweet hubby Steffen....She allowed Kate to "interview her" (translation=ask nosy questions) so you can get to know & love her !

Hmmm…that's very easy: I wish that tons of scrap goodies and mixed media stuff would be in it. I LOVE patterned papers, especially from Crate Paper and October Afternoon. So, this is always a good choice to make me happy.

FAVORITE 3 COLORS ( COLOR PALETTE) TO SCRAP WITH ?
My favorite color is still turquoise but my favorite color palette depends on season, weather and mood :) But one of my all time summer favorites is this:

SCRAPBOOKING SUPPLY THAT YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT?
It's not a regular scrapbooking supply but I could never work without my sewing machine and my black ink pot. You'll find these two things almost on every project I design. I just love the effects on my art :)

No snacks, no way! I'm scared about fouling my projects with snacks :) I love to listen to some audio books and music and I have a TV in my studio but I use it very rarely. My mostly needed supply in my scrapping environment is hubby. His desk also is in the studio and I love to talk to him while I'm creating :)

JULY is the 7th month of the year in the Julian & Gregorian calendars and one of 7 months with the length of 31 days. It is, on average, the warmest month in most of the Northern Hemisphere. We Lipstick Chicks wanted to make July the HOTTEST month for you so we decided to kick it up a notch (or two or three) for your scraplifting pleasure! We'd taken a brief absence but just know that WE"RE BAACKK and we missed you so! There's some exciting changes coming over the summer months and we're so glad you are back to see what we're gonna be up to!

With all the busy schedules and with some kids already out of school for the summer, we've had to make some changes to the Design Team-and so while we are sad to say goodbye to some of the ladies, we are still full of inspiration!

I'M ALIVE!

Hello Ladies!

I know it's been a loooong time since you all have heard from me. I went M.I.A. last month due to a couple of circumstances.

#1 being: My husband returned home from Iraq. His tour this time was short lived but I am extremely greatful that his replacements got there earlier than they were expected. I am SO glad to have him back though, even though it was literally like a days notice before I found out he was coming home. His ONLY requests for me when he returned was to stay off the computer and keep out of my scrapbooking room and spend some quality time with him and the fam bam. So I did...with a short facebook sneek here and there. I had no time to warn you all or even prepare for my absence and it totally sucked being away from you all. I've missed you all dearly.

#2: A couple of my sisters from Hawaii came down the SAME DAY my husband got in and I had been preparing for their arrival all that week. My mother and a couple of my other sisters from Hawaii came a week later and left just yesterday (August 18). So, to keep my mind off of all my responsibilities in the online/crafty world we have been keeping busy and staying on the go.

Since my husband is back to work now and my family is gone I wanted to take a moment today to make contact and to let you all know that I haven't fell off the earth...yet. Also, I'm sorry if I had any of you worried and got any of you upset. It was a quick decision I had to make and I hope you all accept my appology.

I'll be a little busy for the remaining of the week as I am preparing for an important meeting this Saturday. My husband and I have decided to build a house and make Texas our home and this Saturday is when we go over the floorplan and some of the other details. FUN, FUN, FUN!

I know I have A LOT to catch up on scrap-wise and A LOT of updates to make for the DT's I'm a part of. Luckily I have my sweetheart, Ally Serrato, to thank for helping me with some of those things that need updating. I love you girl!

Things should be back to normal SOON!

Since I've skipped out on things for awhile I am also not on top of my game right now and if there is any prizes owed or something I forgot to send somebody PLEASE let me know what it is by emailing me personally at lynnette-davis@hotmail.com.
